I Wonder - Leeland

This month I would like to share a Psalm with you!  May you be blessed as you read it.  Happy New Year!

Psalm 4

New King James Version (NKJV)

The Safety of the Faithful

To the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of David.

Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness!
You have relieved me in my distress;
Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.
How long, O you sons of men,
Will you turn my glory to shame?
How long will you love worthlessness
And seek falsehood? Selah
But know that the Lord has set apart for Himself him who is godly;
The Lord will hear when I call to Him.
Be angry, and do not sin.
Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Selah
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness,
And put your trust in the Lord.
There are many who say,
“Who will show us any good?”
Lord, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.
You have put gladness in my heart,
More than in the season that their grain and wine increased.
I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;

For You alone, O Lordmake me dwell in safety.

G.I.R.L. Newsletter *Special Edition*

Three happy snowmen
 Special Message from G.I.R.L. Newsletter...

   This Christmas Day many people around the world are celebrating.  Some are celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, while others are just caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season and all the excitement that goes with it.

   Whether or not you celebrate Christmas, celebrate Hanukkah, or choose to not celebrate anything at all, my prayer for you today is that you experience the love of our Savior Jesus Christ.  That is what is most important, it's not the day, it's not the fancy meal we eat or gifts we receive, but it is that you have a personal encounter with the Messiah Jesus Christ.
   You might be an atheist, someone completely lost in Christmas traditions forgetting God, or perhaps you are questioning your belief that God even exists.
I want to tell you that He does!  He is as real today as ever.
   The Creator of the world wants to have a personal relationship with you!  He wants you to get lost in His love, in His mercy, and in His forgiveness.  It doesn't matter what you've done or where you've been, He loves you with a love that no one can quench.
   Call out to Him today before it is too late.  You can say "I'll do ittomorrow", but in reality we are not promised tomorrow.  We are given today, and today is the day we need to choose to serve God with our lives.  He is waiting for you right now, call on Jesus our Redeemer and He will save you!

In my distress I called upon the Lord,
And cried out to my God;
He heard my voice from His temple,
And my cry came before Him, even to His ears.
Psalm 18:6

 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Romans 10:13

Bible Verses:

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthymeditate on these things. Philippians 4:8

Let
no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
Ephesians 4:29

A perverse man sows strife,
And a whisperer separates the best of friends.
Proverbs 16:28

Keep your tongue from
 evil,
And your lips from
 speaking deceit.
Psalm 34:13

Where there is no wood, the fire goes out;
And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.
Proverbs 26:20

And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.
Luke 6:31

Devotion:
   This month I would like to talk about gossip and our words. I'm sure when we hear the word gossip we all have something that comes to mind, perhaps a time maybe when someone gossiped about us. Let's first establish what gossip actually is. The dictionary defines it as "
idle talk or rumor, especially about the personal or private affairs of others".  Based on that description this is definitely not something we want part of our lives! Even more importantly, the bible commands us against it.  It can be so easy when we are out with our friends to start talking about something we know about a mutual friend.  A lot of times we like to say "oh well that isn't gossip, I'm just stating a fact", when really we should not be talking about that person behind their back.  Another good thing to remember is Luke6:31, doing unto others as we would want them to do to us.  I know that I sure don't like it when I've heard that someone was talking about me behind my back and saying things about me, so I shouldn't want to do that to others either. In closing, let us strive to keep our talk encouraging and positive, to build one another up, and to be respectful of other people's feelings.
The Bible has a lot to say about this topic, so I encourage you to study the verses listed above and look up some more on your own.

Love Never Fails - Brandon Heath

1 Corinthians 13

New King James Version (NKJV)

The Greatest Gift

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provokedthinks no evildoes not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truthbears all things believes all thingshopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

I Shall Not Want - Audrey Assad

When I read today's "Our Daily Bread" I was really blessed by it and wanted to share it with you all.  I know we are all at different stages of life, but something we all need to know is God's Will.  I pray you are blessed!  You can read the Daily Bread each day at http://odb.org/

Devotion:

Bible reading Psalm 37:23-40  http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+37%3A23-40
We’re often looking for God’s will—especially when we’re in a difficult situation. We wonder, What will happen to me here? Should I stay or does God want me somewhere else? The only way to know for sure is to do what He asks you to do right now—the duty of the present moment—and wait for God to reveal the next step.
As you obey what you know, you will be strengthened to take the next step and the next. Step by step, one step at a time. That’s how we learn to walk with God.
But you say, “Suppose I take the first step. What will happen next?” That’s God’s business. Your task and mine is to obey this day and leave the future to Him. The psalmist says our steps are “ordered by the Lord” (37:23). This day’s direction is all we need. Tomorrow’s instruction is of no use to us at all. George MacDonald said, “We do not understand the next page of God’s lesson book; we see only the one before us. Nor shall we be allowed to turn the leaf until we have learned its lesson.”
If we concern ourselves with God’s will and obey each day the directions and warnings He gives, if we walk by faith and step out in the path of obedience, we will find that God will lead us through this day. As Jesus put it, “Tomorrow will worry about its own things” (Matt. 6:34).
God knows each winding way I take,
And every sorrow, pain, and ache;
His children He will not forsake—
He knows and loves His own. —Bosch
Blessed is the person who finds out which way God is moving and then goes in that direction.

Love & Prayers,
Deborah Allyn
