Bible Verses:

Then Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before the Lord, which He had not commanded them. So fire went out from the Lord and devoured them, and they died before the LordAnd Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord spoke, saying:
‘By those who come near Me
I must be regarded as holy;
And before all the people
I must be glorified.’”
So Aaron held his peace.
Then Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said to them, “Come near, carry your brethren from before the sanctuary out of the camp.” So they went near and carried them by their tunics out of the camp, as Moses had said.
And Moses said to Aaron, and to Eleazar and Ithamar, his sons, “Do not uncover your heads nor tear your clothes, lest you die, and wrath come upon all the people. But let your brethren, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which the Lord has kindled. You shall not go out from the door of the tabernacle of meeting, lest you die, for the anointing oil of the Lord is upon you.” And they did according to the word of Moses.
Leviticus 10:1-7

Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God.
Matthew 5:8

Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
2 Timothy 2:22

Devotion:
   I came across this story in Leviticus recently and it really spoke to me (check it out above!)  Just to go over shortly here what happened, Nadab & Abihu worked in the Temple and they disobeyed God by burning a type of incense that was not what God had instructed them to do.  This resulted in severe punishment from God, their death.  Even though we do not find our selves in this situation in our lives today, this story can still have a practical application.  When God gives us commands and instructions He is very serious about them.  We can not just do things our own way and disregard what our Heavenly Father has said.  We must come before God with a pure heart and strive to please Him in all we do.  It is not our works that save us, but when we are saved we should have the desire to do what God asks of us and obey his Word.  In your life today do not let the "strange fire" of compromise creep in.

Love & Prayers,
Deborah Allyn
