Bible Verses:

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthymeditate on these things. Philippians 4:8

Let
no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
Ephesians 4:29

A perverse man sows strife,
And a whisperer separates the best of friends.
Proverbs 16:28

Keep your tongue from
 evil,
And your lips from
 speaking deceit.
Psalm 34:13

Where there is no wood, the fire goes out;
And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.
Proverbs 26:20

And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.
Luke 6:31

Devotion:
This month I would like to talk about gossip and our words. I'm sure when we hear the word gossip we all have something that comes to mind, perhaps a time maybe when someone gossiped about us. Let's first establish what gossip actually is. The dictionary defines it as "
idle talk or rumor, especially about the personal or private affairs of others".  Based on that description this is definitely not something we want part of our lives! Even more importantly, the bible commands us against it.  It can be so easy when we are out with our friends to start talking about something we know about a mutual friend.  A lot of times we like to say "oh well that isn't gossip, I'm just stating a fact", when really we should not be talking about that person behind their back.  Another good thing to remember is Luke6:31, doing unto others as we would want them to do to us.  I know that I sure don't like it when I've heard that someone was talking about me behind my back and saying things about me, so I shouldn't want to do that to others either. In closing, let us strive to keep our talk encouraging and positive, to build one another up, and to be respectful of other people's feelings.
The Bible has a lot to say about this topic, so I encourage you to study the verses listed above and look up some more on your own.

Love & Prayers,
Deborah Allyn
