Bible Verses:

For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.
Galatians 1:10

Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left. Isaiah 30:21

But as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.  For neither at any time did we use flattering words, as you know, nor a cloak for covetousness—God is witness.
1 Thessalonians 2:4-5

Devotion:
Our world puts a lot of expectations on us.  Everything from where we should go to college, how we should dress, what kind of car we should drive, to what we should eat!  Sometimes it can be difficult to remember that the only person we need to please is our Heavenly Father.  It doesn't matter what the world thinks about what we are doing, all that matters is that we are following God and doing what He wants us to - even when those around us don't understand and think it's strange.  When our goal in life is to honor God and live for Him, He will bless our endeavors.

Love & Prayers,
Deborah Allyn

  1. Hello, My name is Heather LaPeer (www.hopelovesliberty.com) and I have been working on a post about how children start off seeing inner beauty but at some point put on....the "world's eyes" so to speak instead of looking through God's eyes. I was focusing on how we ought to see people for the beautiful people they are inside and out even if they don't fit the world's standards for beauty, which I think is good but I was a bit stuck. I just wanted to thank you for your words and the verses, they were the added inspiration I think I needed. The post should be up on my blog in a few days now. Thanks for letting God work through you. Let me know if I can use your name on my post, I am considering quoting you, with your permission of course.

  2. Sorry to comment a second time in as many hours, but you have inspired me. Instead of me quoting you, would you be willing to write a guest post for my blog? I have decided to turn my beauty post into a three part series. The first being about when the world's eyes take over for God's eyes and how we should cling to seeing others the way God sees them. And if you're willing, the second would be yours about how we as Godly women need to ensure that those around us see the right kind of beauty and how we shouldn't adhere to the world's standards and feed the world's eyes, and then God willing I am begging the girls from the blog Dutch Umbrella to do a fun third segment about tips for modest fashion! Please let me know at halapeer@syr.edu, or leave a comment on my blog, again hopelovesliberty.com. I would really appreciate it!
